The Craziness of New York Fashion Week.

September is one of busiest times of the year for the fashion calendar.  I had the privilege of working during New York Fashion Week. New York Fashion Week does not  live up to the hype of previous years and everyone still lives in its glory days. You still feel the energy that it perpetuates and everyone still has this hankering to slip into  shows/events.

The jam pack week had me going non stop. I worked 3 fashion shows, a fashion week activation, and  definitely got my daily steps in. I personally know that a lot of people do not like working fashion week. It can be very crazy dealing with clients who want the world with a limited budget at the last minute. It is a constant task of running around the city to make their ideas come alive.  My role was to assist our production managers in any task that they needed.  From overseeing our activation build outs to running to random hotel lobbies to pick up garment bags. In all that craziness, I felt a sense of accomplishment and joy. The feeling you feel seeing that show come alive and people enjoying the space that you helped build  was fulfilling. Having people trust you to execute their ideas carries a huge responsibility. A lot of people’s jobs and livelihoods rely on the execution of these projects. It takes years for designers to reach that caliber to get to New York Fashion Week.

It is easier to just attend shows and enjoy the production, but it takes another type of person to navigate and execute the beast of New York Fashion Week.
